By Our Correspondent,Dhadingbesi, Dec. 16: A two-day ‘Street Newa Cuisine Festival’ that began on Saturday in Dhading Besi, the district headquarters of Dhading, concluded on Sunday.

The festival organised by the Jhingu Newa Society Dhading under the slogan ‘Let’s eat on the street, enjoy on the street and earn on the street’, aimed to celebrate the tradition of the Newar community.

According to Rajkumar Shrestha, president of the Jhingu Newa Society Dhading, the festival seeks to establish the Newari language, culture, cuisine and attire at national and international levels.

He added that the festival was expected to contribute to preserving the fading Newar culture.

The encouraging participation of people has further motivated the organisers, said Rajkumar Shrestha, Chairman of Nilkantha Municipality Ward- 3.

The street festival featured traditional Newari dishes like yomari, chatamari, bara, chhoila, sapu micha, mushroom chhoila, soybean chhoila and wo.

Despite being the first event of its kind, the organisers anticipated over 1,500 attendees, as per Ward Chairman Shrestha.

A cultural programme was being held on a stage set up along the street, with Newar delicacies displayed on both sides of the road.

Many visitors tasted the cuisine and learned about Newar culture, he added.
