Device measuring air pollution to be installed in 18 places of KMC

 Kathmandu, Dec. 10: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is going to install devices in 18 different places in the metropolis to measure air pollution. 

Deputy Mayor of KMC Sunita Dangol did the opening of the noble work by installing an air pollution measuring device in the building of the central office of KMC, Kathmandu Plaza on Tuesday.

The Environmental Management Department of Metropolis in collaboration with the Partnership for Healthy Cities, has installed equipment to monitor air quality throughout the metropolitan area.

Speaking after the opening segment, Deputy Mayor Dangol said that KMC is working to reduce air pollution as part of an internal program and in collaboration with other organizations. 

She said, "There is a need for a result based on facts to measure the effectiveness of the ongoing programs and to improve them if needed.  The device measuring air pollution provides such kind of facts. 

The dust-free metropolis program is under implementation to build a healthy city by reducing the effects of pollution on the finance, social, environmental, and development sectors.  A park and green preservation program is underway. Fire is banned from igniting openly. Car-free Saturday is initiated in Handigaun. Categorization of waste products has been made. Environment and children programs in the school curriculum have been made for environmental education. 

 She said, 'Partnership will help to institutionalize the achievement.'
