By Rajan Rawat,Humla, Dec. 7: Illegal Chinese alcohol confiscated by the police while being smuggled from Taklakot, China, to Hilsa, Nepal, was destroyed on Thursday.
The alcohol, deemed unfit for consumption, was destroyed under the supervision of the Yari Checkpoint Police Office, with the involvement of locals of Hilsa.
Ram Raj Jaishi, Chief of the Yari Customs Office, said that illegal alcohol which the police administration had seized in the last one year was also destroyed.
The alcohol was found hidden in mules used for transport. It was destroyed in Hilsa by digging a pit, with the consent of the local administration.
A total of 443 cartons of alcohol were destroyed, including, 420 cartons of Chinese alcohol, two cartons of Chinese beer, eight cartons of Budweiser beer and five cartons of Lhasa beer.
These alcohol, smuggled into the district, were reportedly sold for Rs. 500 to 800 per bottle. The value of the Chinese alcohol alone amounts to Rs. 3.24 million, with the "Charpate" alcohol and beer contributing another Rs. 50,000, totalling Rs. 3.74 million.
Due to the lack of legal permission to import this alcohol into the district, traders have been smuggling it into Nepal.
