By Anil Parajuli,Hetauda, Nov. 27: Dengue cases are declining with the onset of winter but the risk of the disease persists in Makawanpur district.
The district has recorded 2,221 dengue cases from July 16 to November 25.
Compared to the previous fiscal year, which saw 891 infections, in the current fiscal year the number of cases has risen sharply by the third week of November.
According to the Public Health Office, Makawanpur, 1,147 males and 1,074 females have been confirmed as dengue-positive.
While cold weather has reduced the spread, one new case of dengue was reported within the past 24 hours.
Laxman Ghimire, information officer at the Public Health Office, revealed that the highest number of dengue cases in the district were recorded in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City, where 1,767 individuals, including 901 males and 866 females, tested positive.
Similarly, 230 dengue cases were confirmed in Manahari Rural Municipality, 51 in Makawanpurgadhi Rural Municipality, 36 in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality, 24 in Bakaiya Rural Municipality, 13 in Thaha Municipality, nine in Kailash, eight in Raksirang Rural Municipality and three in Bagmati.
Furthermore, 40 cases were reported from individuals residing outside the district, while another 40 cases lacked recorded addresses.
The Public Health Office stated that Indrasarovar reported zero dengue cases this year.
Meanwhile, the district has also reported 452 cases of scrub typhus, with 299 women and 153 men affected as of November 25.
A total of 280 people have been infected with scrub typhus in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City, 61 in Makawanpurgadhi, 29 in Manahari, 28 in Bakaiya, 20 in Bhimphedi and seven in Raksirang.
Additionally, four cases were reported in Bagmati, three in Kailash and one in Indrasarovar.
According to the Public Health Office, Makawanpur, 14 cases of scrub typhus were reported among individuals from outside the district, while five cases lacked recorded addresses.
