Karnali, Nov 27: A province level
workshop to prepare strategic action plan for the establishment and operation
of a multi-hazard early warning system concluded here on Tuesday.
The workshop on floods, landslides,
lightning and other hazards in Karnali province was held at Birendranagar
amidst the participation of stakeholders.
Chief District Officer of Surkhet,
Shankar Hari Acharya stressed the need for disaster risk reduction based on the
provisions made in the schedule of the Constitution and the 'National Disaster
Risk Reduction Act, 2074 BS'.
He said the emergency operation
centre should be equipped with resources.
Chair of Barahatal Rural
Municipality, Bhim Bahadur Bhandari underlined for formulating a plan to have a
long-term positive impact on the management and development of all the
settlements.
Noting that the district
administration has made the information system effective, he suggested
installing sirens in every settlement to avoid disasters.
The participants recommended
managing the settlements along the banks of rivers and rivulets, paying
attention to the construction of road infrastructure and stopping the
indiscriminate use of dozers to mitigate the risk of disaster.
The workshop was organized in
collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law of Karnali Province
and Practical Action.(RSS)
