Students of Tribeni Secondary School busy with strawberry cultivation

By Guna Bahadur Roka, Sulikot,  Nov.27: The students of Shree Tribeni Secondary School located in Sera Bajar, Palungtar Municipality-9, Gorkha have started cultivating strawberries.

Ganesh Raj Sedai, the principal of the school said that the students of the school have started cultivating strawberries in collaboration with Agricultural Knowledge Center, Gorkha and Tribeni Secondary School.

He said that schools from classes 9 to 12 who are studying agriculture have started cultivating strawberries on a plot of 1 ropani of land. 

He said, "So far, the school has rented 10 ropani of field and 8 ropani of steep land for students of agriculture stream to plant rice, corn, and seasonal vegetables such as potatoes. This year, we tried something new and planted strawberries."

Strawberries have never been cultivated in Gorkha making it a new and high priced therefore it has been given priority. 

Since strawberries are new, the school has said that about 600 plants have been planted in an area of about 1 ropani this year.

If strawberry production gets good, we are thinking of renting a person's land from 1 ropani of land  to 10 ropani of land, Principal Sedai said, "If the production is good, the school has also decided to give 60 percent income to the students."

According to the school, the produce of students has yielded a good income for the school and for themselves as well.
