Efforts need to be made to reduce elephant menace: Speaker Ghimire

By Bishnu Prasad Pokharel, Damak, Nov. 20: Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Devraj Ghimire said that Jhapa district has been greatly affected by wild elephants and said that he will take initiatives to control elephants.

He said that he was elected from Jhapa constituency-2 which is also heavily affected by elephants. 

Therefore, the plan of electric fencing which started in the elephant-affected areas by the Speaker's initiative to reduce the elephant menace has been effective, so he said that it should be expanded.

I am aware of the destruction caused by elephants.

 Saying that the expected work is not being done because of a lack of budget, Speaker Ghimire pledged to take the initiative to bring an effective plan for elephant control.

He said that he is making efforts to reduce property loss by expanding the electric fencing. 

According to Shekhar Adhikari, press advisor to the Speaker, Speaker Ghimire was busy monitoring the development plans of his constituency for three consecutive days. 

There was a schedule to interact with voters and to inspect incomplete and under-construction projects.
