SC seeks government's reply over decision to restore power supplies

blog

Kathmandu, Nov 13: The Supreme Court (SC) has sought a response in writing from the government over its decision to restore electricity supply to industries that had been disconnected by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

A single bench of justice Nityananda Pandey, on Wednesday, directed the government to respond to the matter, after hearing a writ petition challenging the decision of the Council of Ministers to resume supply to the defaulter industries.

According to SC Spokesperson Achyut Kuinkel, both parties have been summoned for discussions over the matter on November 18.

The writ petition was filed on Tuesday by advocate Khadananda Kandel and the document names the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, and the NEA as defendants.

On November 10, the Cabinet decided to restore within 24 hours electricity supply to industries that had been disconnected due to unpaid dues. Kandel moved the apex court, challenging this decision. (RSS)
