Kathmandu, Nov 5: Former President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Dr Suresh Prasad Acharya, has been recommended for the position of Chief Commissioner of the National Information Commission (NIC).
A meeting of the recommendation committee chaired by Speaker Devraj Ghimire took the decision to this effect on Monday.
Similarly, the committee also recommended former Chairperson of Press Chautari Nepal, Gagan Bista, and former Secretary Durga Bhandari as Information Commissioners.
There is a provision of recommending names for Chief Commissioner and Information Commissioners by a three-member recommendation committee. The Speaker of the House of Representatives is the chairperson, and the Minister for Communications and Information Technology and the President of FNJ are members of the committee.
A total of 15 people had applied for the post of Chief Commissioner and 29 for the position of commissioners.(RSS)
