Kathmandu, Nov. 5: Since Monday morning, light to moderate rainfall in some parts of the country, including Kathmandu, has slightly affected daily life and disrupted some internal flights.

Flights from Kathmandu to airports in the Tarai region are not operating regularly due to low visibility and most flights to remote areas have been canceled. Some domestic flights have been slightly affected but international flights are operating normally.

According to Jagannath Niraula, General Manager of the Tribhuvan International Airport, flights to Lukla have been halted due to thick fog on its route. "Flights to a few areas have been affected by adverse weather conditions. However, flights to airports having clear weather are operating regularly," he said.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Meteorological Forecasting Division, light rainfall occurred in some places of the country because of the influence of western winds, local winds and a low-pressure system developed around West Bengal, India.

Bibhuti Pokhrel, spokesperson for the MFD, said that light to moderate rainfall occurred on Monday in some parts of the country, including Kathmandu. There was rainfall with thunder and lightning in a few areas of the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces.

For the next 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall is expected in some areas of the hilly regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in a few other hilly areas and some locations in the Tarai region.

The department has also indicated a possibility of light snowfall in certain parts of the high hilly and Himalayan regions and has advised precautionary measures as this could affect agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, road and air transport.

According to Pokhrel, weather conditions are expected to gradually improve starting Tuesday.
