Surkhet, Nov. 5: The building construction for the Good Governance Centre of Karnali Province has reached the final stage.
The construction company initially aimed to complete the building within three years, but it appears that construction will finish ahead of schedule.
According to the Infrastructure Development Directorate in Surkhet, the building work is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed sooner than planned. The contract for the building was signed with GP Builders, Kathmandu, on November 29, 2023, setting a completion date of June 29, 2026.
Information Officer Birendra Jung Shahi from the Directorate said that the project would be completed before the contractual deadline. The building contract was signed for Rs. 146.7 million, and the construction company has geared up to finish within the next few months. So far, the project has reached 90 per cent physical completion and 78 per cent financial progress.
However, the Good Governance Centre of Karnali Province has not yet been effective in its operations. Although the Province Good Governance Act, 2019 was established and implemented, its impact has not been evident. The provincial government has announced that constructing the building is a step toward enhancing the centre's effectiveness.
The centre, established under the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, was created to promote good governance. Despite the creation of the Province Good Governance Act, 2019, and its regulations in 2022, operations have yet to align fully with these guidelines.
Secretary Anand Saru of the Chief Minister’s Office said that with the completion of the centre’s building, efforts would be made to advance the centre’s work more effectively.
