Kathmandu, Oct 4: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said Nepal Telecom has a key role to make successful the Digital Nepal Framework.
Inspecting the network operation system at Jawalakhel Office of Nepal Telecom on Friday, Minister Gurung, who is also the spokesperson of the government, viewed information technology (IT) has huge potential in South Asia.
"Nepal Telecom needs to improve quality in its service," he stressed.
Minister Gurung reminded, "Complaints are received on coverage and quality of telephone. So, it is essential to resolve these problems on time." He further viewed the private sector involves in trade in telecommunications, but Nepal Telecom has more responsibility towards people by maintaining good governance.
E-governance would be adopted in all ministries and offices, which would heavily cut people's spending. "Still, 16 wards of local levels are still waiting for Telecom service. So, it is time to address it," Gurung stressed.
He said the IT decade was announced, but the budget failed to incorporate it, so expenditure management also warrants attention. "Programmes are impossible sans policy, while programmes can not be executed in absence of budget. Therefore, all sides' management is essential."
The Nepal Telecom was also drawn attention towards its task on achievement of sustainable development goals.
The inspection team also comprised Ministry Secretary Radhika Aryal, Telecom Managing Director Sangita Pahadi and technical employees.
Deputy Manager at Telecom, Rabindra Khainju, made a presentation before the inspection team on network system and its operation in light of complaints the Minister shared.(RSS)
