Limbu movie Che’s special show held

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct. 3: A special show of Limbu feature film 'Che' was held at the City Centre of the capital on Tuesday.

Che means a dead body in the Limbu language.

Directed by Sagar Kerung, the film deals with the problems faced by the Limbu community. The film tells the tale of a corpse. 

It delivers the message that the destruction of cultural and local heritages under the boot of development may bring many problems. The film seeks the conservation of the cultural heritages while carrying out development activities.

"This is a story of the struggle between the persons who are for and against the destruction of a cultural heritage," director Kerung said, "It signals that how the Limbu community itself is turning like a corpse before so-called  development." 

He asked the concerned not to destroy the graveyard of the community. "If we do not conserve it, there will be no place for lay dead bodies of our community," he warned.

Produced by Indu Phombo and Sabu Limbu Thamsuhang under the banner of Yakthung Film Pvt. Ltd, the film has Pranesh Subba, Karnam Subba, Bimala Khajum, Sagar Kerung, Yasali Yonghang, Nisham Tumbapo, Bhabendra Thamsuhang and others as the actors. 

It was shot in several panoramic venues of Panchthar district. This is the fourth film by director Kerung. Before this, he had directed three feature films including Ke, Pungsam and Tumbehang.

It is informed that the film would be screened in many places of the country and abroad.

"Such films can play a big role in conserving the language and culture of the Indigenous people," Indu Phombo, one of the producers, said.

At the show, the Coordinator of the Indigenous Janajati Mother-tongue Film Branch of the Film Development Board, Jyotiraj Rai, and General Secretary of the Film Directors Society Arun Pradhan were also present.
