By Kapil Gyawali,Siddharthanagar, Sept. 28: Seven meat shops in Butwal, accused of selling unhealthy meat and compromising consumer health, have been fined.

The Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 on each of the seven shops following an inspection of the shops.

Chief of the Animal Development Section of the Sub-Metropolitan City, Jhabindra Prasad Banjade, said that the shops were fined after repeated warnings to sell only hygienic meat were ignored.

The fined shops include Butwal Meat Suppliers, Jyoti Maila Meat Shop, Sapkota Meat Shop, New Pahadiya Meat Shop, Bhanja Meat Shop, Banjade Meat Shop and Pahadiya Meat Shop.

Banjade said that the municipality would continue the inspections and they had warned that any shop found selling meat from slaughterhouses not certified by the authorities would face further penalties.

The first offence carries a fine of Rs. 10,000, the second Rs. 25,000, and the third offence will result in a Rs. 50,000 fine. If the violations continue, the shop may be shut down.

Banjade emphasised that the Sub-Metropolitan City is particularly sensitive about the health of Butwal residents, and all businesses must only sell meat slaughtered in authorised slaughterhouses.
