Foundation busy on social service

By Sujan Kaphle, Charikot, Sep 3: Locals have said that the Nita Raut Foundation has been playing an active role in transforming society.

Nita Raut, a permanent resident of Dolakha has been exemplary by establishing a foundation in Kathmandu for helping elderly people, children and underprivileged communities.

Raut, who continues to be a support for the helpless, said that social service gives self-satisfaction. "Social service is not to show off to anyone, it should be done with the spirit of pure service, that is the real social service," She said.

She established the foundation on 2074 BS and started an institutional help campaign. She was a social worker before the establishment of the foundation.

Locals have said that during the 2015 AD's Gorkha earthquake, Raut distributed Sanitary pads, necessary medicines and food materials with various institutions for the Dolakha people.

She was active in helping the people who were deprived of treatment due to economic problems to people those are forced to live lives in huts.


She has helped poor students with school bags, dresses and stationary items in the rural districts. She also operated helping campaigns during the COVID-19 period.

The foundation has been supporting the warm clothes campaign in the Musahar community, the adoption of guardianship of girls at risk from flood-affected Terai, the distribution of bags and clothes to schools in remote areas, HIV-infected children, blind and disabled children.

She said, 'Wherever I can, I help myself, in some places it is not possible to do it alone, at that time I have helped other like-minded personalities or campaigns.' She also said that she has been depositing 20 per cent of her monthly salary in the Foundation Support Fund.

She has been honoured for social service and volunteering under the Youth Inspiration Social Worker Excellence Award organized in Malaysia for social work, district-level youth talent and entrepreneur search and encouragement programs.
