By Our Correspondent,Dhulikhel, Aug. 31: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced the launch of online education across the country to ensure that up to 70 per cent of students pass the upcoming School Education Examination (SEE).
Speaking at the 29th convocation ceremony of Kathmandu University in Dhulikhel on Friday, Prime Minister Oli, who is also the Vice-Chancellor, announced that the federal government had directed relevant authorities to conduct special online classes on key subjects, including English, Mathematics and Science for 10 graders.
“Having only around 50 per cent of students pass the SEE is a grave injustice to them. To address this issue, I have instructed the Ministry of Education, Nepal Telecom, and other relevant agencies to take the necessary steps.”
“Rather than giving extra marks, we have initiated efforts to enhance students' knowledge to increase the pass rate. We will demonstrate the purpose of this government's formation through the results,” he added.
He further clarified that the government will take clearer and more decisive actions in the coming days to ensure the country's prosperity and to strengthen the overall education system.
Stating that student performance had improved in Jhapa after he initiated online classes last year, he said this practice would be expanded nationwide.
Prime Minister Oli urged students from various faculties of the university to effectively use their knowledge and skills and to aspire to become valuable citizens.
He said, “You can now go anywhere in the world and showcase your abilities. The world is open to you. This success is the result of your parents’ investment and love, so make the most of it and strive to become a valuable citizen with a service-oriented mindset.”
Minister for Education, Science and Technology and Vice-Chancellor Bidya Bhattarai also attended the programme, where 2,314 students, including foreign students graduated.
