HoR Session: Lawmakers reiterate on addressing pressing issues

Kathmandu, Aug 29: House of Representatives (HoR) members have advised the government to be proactive in addressing various issues including mitigating loss from natural disasters.     

Seeking time in a meeting of the lower house today, Sita Kumari Rana expressed her concerns over the loss of lives from the lightning strikes.     

She also demanded the government provide compensation to the bereaved families and timely treatment to the injured.     

Manish Jha was concerned over a delay in bringing back an aircraft of Nepal Airlines taken outside the country for maintenance.     

Rajendra Bajgain urged the government to take measures to contain activities capable of jeopardizing religious harmony.

Likewise, lawmakers have strongly voiced for controlling the sky-rocketing price of commodities in view of the approaching festivals.     

They also drew the government's attention on the need of addressing the problems of the dalit landless squatters with a population of 160,000, preventing the increasing violence against women, the development projects getting delayed, farmers' products not getting the market and appropriate price and taking effective measures for checking air accidents.     

The lawmakers also stressed on soil conservation and protecting the public land from encroachment, improving the condition of roads and public transport, controlling the spread of cholera, easing the supply system, taking effective steps towards reducing air pollution and taking drastic steps to control the endemic corruption.     

MPs expressing their views in the zero hour of the meeting of the House of Representatives today were Achyut Prasad Mainali, Ammar Bahadur Rayamajhi, Anjali Shrestha, Anisha Nepali, Anita Devi, Arjun Narsingh KC, Asma Kumari Chaudhary, Ishwar Bahadur Rijal, Udaya Shumsher JBR, Urmila Majhi, Ishwari Gharti, Kantika Sejuwal, Kaluram Rai, Ganesh Parajuli, Goma Lal Sapkota, Ganga Karki, Ganga Prasad Yadav, Ganga Ram Chaudhary, Dr Chanda Karki, Dr Chandra Kant Bhandari, Chandra Bahadur Bishwakarma, Tshering Domdul Lama (Bhote), Chhiring Lhamu Lama, Jabeda Khatu and Julie Kumari Mahato.     

Similarly, lawmaker Eknath Dhakal urged the government to take initiatives for holding the SAARC Summit in Nepal to activate the regional organisation while Kiran Kumar Saha stressed on the need of amending the Constitution to address the emerging national issues. (RSS)
