Govt commits to meet revenue target by plugging leakage

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 29: The meeting of the Central Revenue Leakage Control Committee has decided to fulfill the target of revenue collection for the current fiscal year by expanding tax-friendly services and controlling revenue leakage.

The meeting of the committee of the heads of various agencies that play an important role in revenue collection, including Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak, under the chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, decided to make the goal of revenue collection an important basis for evaluating the performance of the employees and security personnel assigned for revenue administration.

Similarly, the meeting decided to form a central rapid patrol team to control revenue leakage and deploy it from east to west. 

It has been decided to implement a systematic action plan related to revenue leakage control, to be careful not to cause any kind of sorrow to taxpayers who have done business according to the law, but to not give exemption to anyone doing illegal economic activities, according to the Ministry of Finance.

The meeting also decided to effectively coordinate between various agencies under the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Home Affairs to control revenue leakage.

In the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Paudel said that no one who involved in leakage revenue will be exempted.

He instructed to post employees and policemen connected with the revenue administration to break the unexpected relationship that may occur when the same person stays in the same position and responsibility for a long time.

DPM Paudel instructed to make surveillance effective through the use of modern technology, including scanners at the border crossings, to make the classification and evaluation of imported goods realistic, to encourage the act of taking and giving bills in the market, and to investigate ruthlessly against revenue leakage that may be caused by setting up fake bills or firms. 

He expressed his belief that from now on, the steps of revenue administration and security personnel would be qualitatively higher.

Minister of Home Affairs Lekhak expressed his commitment that the Ministry of Home Affairs would provide all necessary support to meet the target of revenue by controlling leakage as much as possible. 

He asked the officials to encourage taxpayers to pay taxes timely.

Finance Secretary, Revenue Secretary, Director General of Inland Revenue Department, Director General of Department of Customs, Director General of Department of Revenue Investigation, Director General of Department of Money Laundering Investigation, and officials of National Investigation Department, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and others were present in the meeting.

They expressed their commitment for exchange information more effectively to control revenue leakage in coordinated manner.
