International marathon for 'Red Panda' conservation

Fungling (Taplejung), Aug 28: The International Marathon competition is to be organized to raise public awareness for the conservation of endangered Red Panda. 



The marathon will be held on coming September 21 on the occasion of the Red Panda Day under the aegis of Himali Conservation Forum. The marathon runners have to pass through a distance of 48-km.   



Programme coordinator of the Forum, Ramesh Rai said the marathon is expected to make a special contribution to Red Panda conservation.    


The route of the marathon has been fixed in Pathibhara area. It is the main habitat of the Red Panda. Located at an altitude of 3,794 meters from Phungling Bazar, 24 kilometers uphill to Pathibhara shrine and from there again 24 kilometers to Phungling Bazar, the distance of 48 kilometers will be completed.    


Stating that preparations for the marathon have already begun, Coordinator Rai said the event is expected to contribute to tourism and biodiversity in Taplejung. (RSS)
