Former President Bhandari emphasizes local government's participation in heritage conservation

Kathmandu, Aug 26: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has called for local government's involvement in conserving Nepal's archeological heritages.     

Addressing a programme organized by the Chundevi Temple Reconstruction Committee at Budhanilakantha municipality-13 marking the Shree Krishna Janmastami on Sunday, former President Bhandari lauded the local level's efforts in heritage conservation.     

She also highlighted the importance of local community's active participation in conserving and developing local arts and culture. Bhandari, also the first female President of the country, noted the increased role of youths and women in preserving art and culture.     

"The presence of youths and women is not only inevitable in developmental endeavors but also in revitalization of arts and culture," the former President viewed, underscoring the initiatives that would involve younger generation in preservation and promotion of local arts and culture.     

Urging the people's representatives to move ahead taking into account people's sentiments, she expressed her confidence that better outputs and results were guaranteed if political parties' representatives and people's representatives work in tandem.     

She also pointed out the need to advance the development model that considers development of physical infrastructures with humanitarian aspects. "Not only development of physical infrastructures, basic needs such as education and health services should be advanced accordingly," she argued.     

Bhandari also encouraged the people's representatives to evaluate the development bid so far and move ahead with a focus on development of physical infrastructures and human.     

Likewise, CPN (UML) Standing Committee member Rajan Bhattarai underlined greater role of local level in heritage conservation.     

Budhanilakantha Municipality Mayor Mitharam Adhikari shared that the reconstruction of quake-damaged heritages was nearing completion in the Municipality.(RSS)
