Share market sees steep decline

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 26: The benchmark of the stock market, NEPSE, has recorded a double-digit fall on Sunday, the first transaction day of the week.

The index decreased by 79.88 points to close at 2,894.57 points on Sunday. 

With significant fall in share market, the index has dropped below 2,900 points. The index had crossed 3,000 points on August 15, 2024.

The sensitive index which measures the performance of group ‘A’ companies decreased by 14.52 points to close at 519.34 points. 

A total of 42,686,640 shares worth Rs. 19.74 billion of 333 companies were sold in 218,578 transactions today.

On August 15, share turnover in terms of value set a new record of Rs. 29.30 billion. The sub-indices of all groups, except microfinance, decreased in today’s transaction.

Sub-index of the life insurance group saw the highest fall of 369.41 points followed by the non-life insurance and hotels and tourism group whose indices decreased by 328.75 points and 177.50 points respectively.

Similarly, sub-index of manufacturing and processing group dropped by 153.78 points, development bank by 145.17 points, finance by 139.39 points, hydropower by 111.45 points, and others by 80.91 points. 

The sub-index of banking decreased by 56.74 points, trading by 70.84 points, investment by 4.63 points and mutual fund by 0.35 points.

However, the sub-index of microfinance increased by 58.40 points and closed at 5,430.62 points.

When the share price of 185 companies decreased, 59 companies increased in today’s transaction.

Share price of Mandakini Hydropower decreased by 9.91 per cent, 10.25% KBL Debenture 2086 by 9.09 per cent and Kutheli Bukhari Small Hydropower by 7.94 per cent.

However, share prices of three microfinance companies, including Wean Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha, Upakar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha and Aatmanirbhar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha have increased by 10 per cent. 

Similarly, the share price of Three Star Hydropower increased by 9.94 per cent, Dhaulagiri Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha by 8.14 per cent and Gurans Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha by 7.27 per cent.
