The Ministry of Social Development in the province organized a discussion with the collaboration of Nepal Academy as part of its initiative to establish the Karnali Province Cultural Policy and Academy.

In the event conducted in the federal capital on Sunday, Minister for Social Development, Ghanashyam Bhandari, spoke on importance of Karnali academy and requested the experts for their suggestions on its formation process and the issues it should address. Although the province has a constitutional right to set up the academy, the initiative was not realized yet.

The Province Minister also vowed collective efforts and consultation to move forward to this regard.

In the programme, he also presented a concept paper prepared for the bill on establishment and operation of the Karnali academy.

Former Chairman of the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) and literary figure Harihar Adhikari 'Shyamal' underscored timeliness of structure and model of the would-be academy. He supported province government's plan for the establishment.

Similarly, Member of the Language Commission, Usha Hamal, viewed the native workforce must be mobilized for the study and research of the language, art and culture of Karnali Province.

Treasurer of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Kalendra Sejuwal, suggested the province government that it could forge collaboration with media to realize the goal.

Prof Dr Prem Khatri shared his experience that sordid politicization in institutions was badly hampering their performance. He urged the initiators to ensure academic features in the proposed institution.
