NA members call for justice to usury victims

Kathmandu, Aug 25: Members in the National Assembly has demanded the government ensure justice to the victims of usury.     

In a meeting of the upper house today, they sought the government focus on the effective implementation of relevant laws.     

Airing views in a zero hour of the session, Puja Chaudhary despite the formulation of the law against usury, the victims have been denied justice. She called for a prompt justice to them.     

Rukmini Koirala advised the government to implement measures for mitigating road accidents. She expressed her concerns over recent accidents including the deadly one in Tanahu.     

Bishnu Devi Pudasaini also advised the government to come up with measures to combat a rising graph of road accidents.     

Renu Chand demanded the government declare the Sudurpaschim Province a touristic zone, seeking to connect Badimalika and Tribeni region, major touristic sites in the Province, with reliable communications and drinking water facilities with the development of other infrastructure development.     

Bishnu Bahadur Bishwakarma urged the government to investigate a case involving the death of a two-day infant on Asar 31 in the Budhanilkantha-based Karuna Hospital to find out facts surrounding the incident.     

Krishna Prasad Adhikari expressed his concerns of the loss of 197 lives in monsoon disasters in the country, wanting the government to be sensitive towards that end.     

Meantime, usury victims demonstrated in Siraha on Saturday, accusing the government of being apathetic towards addressing their issues. They gathered at the local Golbazar to press the government to become responsible for resolving their problems.     

Usury Victims Struggle Committee Chair Awadesh Kushawa said the "accused continue to exploit them on the support of money, power and access." (RSS)
