Mugu, Aug 20: Saroja Budthapa, renowned for her significant contributions to the health sector in Mugu, Karnali Province, has been awarded with the Human Harmony Award 2024.
The award was presented by Nawal Kishor Shah, Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, during a ceremony held on Monday.
Budthapa was recognized for her exceptional dedication to saving the lives of new mothers and infants despite facing numerous challenges. Her work includes facilitating safe childbirth for 8,000 women. During the Maoist insurgency when most health professionals had remained out of the district due to security concerns, Budthapa remained at her post at the District Hospital Mugu, working tirelessly around the clock.
She was abducted and held captive for 15 days by the then rebelling force on the accusation of supporting the State. Despite the dire circumstances, she continued to treat patients within the Maoist forces.
Budthapa began her service as a nurse in the health sector in 2043 BS and dedicated 30 years to Mugu.
Following the adjustment of employees in a federal set-up, she was transferred to Hima rural municipality in Jumla. However, due to issues with her allocation and duties, she resigned three years before completing her term. But, still dedicates her time to the service of senior citizens, mothers and children. (RSS)
