Kathmandu, Aug 18: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged the sports persons to break the efforts being made to vitiate national unity inciting the people in various names.
Addressing the opening session of the third meeting of the Central Committee of the Nepal Sports Federation here today, the Prime Minister insisted on maintaining the national unity as many forces can break the national unity in the name of religion, caste and incite the people.
"In such a small country, we have many castes, languages and ideologies living together. This is our wealth and living heritage," PM Oli said, adding, "We should not allow the nation and people's sentiment to be divided in various names and forms."
The sports sector does not belong to any particular caste or religion. Athletes are represented here on the basis of excellence, PM Oli said.
Laws, procedures and rules are followed here. It should be our job to make disciplined society." Prime Minister Oli made it clear that in a democracy that is ruled by the people, the tendency to not obey the law and act on whims will not lead the society anywhere. He urged people to come forward on the side of truth as false and rumour were spreading in the society to mislead the society, therefore all should be alert.
Stating efforts may be carried out to spoil peace, good governance and the rule of the law in the country, the Prime Minister urged them to be alert towards that end.
"The constitution of the incumbent government aims to prevent corruption and promote good governance. It has implemented a zero tolerance against corruption," he said, pledging to be presented toughly against anyone found indulging in corruption.
The Prime Minister, also the Chairperson of the CPN (UML) urged athletes to shoulder the responsibility of promoting the sports sector.
He wanted the entire generation in the society from children to the senior citizens to adopt sports as a part of life as per their interests and competency, and promote its socialisation and professional development accordingly.
As he said, sports will provide opportunities for entertainment and competition, promoting physical fitness.
He said he sees the possibility of a golden achievement for Nepali athletes in the international forum provided that we played professionally with dedication and passion. He pledged all sorts of support from the government to promote the sports sector.
Stating that the priority to upgrade the Kirtipur cricket stadium reflected the government priority to the sports sector, he urged youths associated with the Federation to contribute to the building of a prosperous, safe and just society, keeping the national independence, democracy, sovereignty and territorial integrity intact.(RSS)
