Stock turnover reaches about Rs. 30 billion, index 3,000 points

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 16: Stocks worth about Rs. 30 billion were bought and sold in the share market on Thursday, the last trading day of the week.

About 68,980,346 shares worth Rs. 29.95 billion of 334 companies were bought and sold in 311,536 transactions today, according to Nepal Stock Exchange Limited. 

The share turnover on Thursday was the highest. Earlier on Monday, the transaction amount was Rs. 27.24 billion.

After the market started showing a bullish trend, the daily turnover volume increased significantly in the past few days.  

The daily transaction amount volume was higher by Rs. 6.79 billion on Thursday than Wednesday’s transaction. 

On Wednesday,  45,141,902 shares worth Rs. 23.16 billion were bought and sold.

The benchmark of the share market index, NEPSE, increased by 43.05 points (1.45 per cent) to close at 3,000.81 points on Thursday.  

After about three years, the NEPSE index crossed 3,000 points. Earlier, on August 18, 2021, the index reached all-time high at 3,198.60 points. 

The NEPSE index increased by 234.43 points during the five transaction days since Sunday this week.

The index rose by 94.46 points on Sunday, by 70.81 points on Monday and by 34.29 points on Wednesday. 

However, the NEPSE dropped by 8.18 points on Tuesday.

The sensitive index which measures the performance of group ‘A’ companies increased by 16.01 points (3.08 per cent) to close at 535.51 points.

The sub-indices of banking, hotels and tourism, hydropower, development banks, non-life insurance, trading, mutual fund and investment groups have increased while the sub-indices of others, manufacturing and processing, finance, microfinance and life insurance groups decreased in today’s transaction.

Sub-index of the non-life insurance group posted the highest growth of 134.34 points followed by the banking and trading group whose indices rose by 90.18 points and 75.20 points respectively.

Similarly, the sub-index of the development bank group increased by 73.23 points, hydropower by 30.14 points, hotels and tourism by 25.16 points, mutual fund by 0.49 points and investment by 3.21 points.

However, the sub-index of the manufacturing and processing groups decreased significantly by 141.57 points while the sub-index of the finance group decreased by 121.18 points and life insurance by 108.35 points. 

The sub-index of the other group decreased by 55.46 points and microfinance by 7.52 points 

When the share price of 106 companies increased, 136 companies increased and one remained unchanged.

Share prices of three companies, including Butwal Power Company, Rastriya Beema Company and Modi Energy increased by 10 per cent.

Similarly, the share prices of Nepal Investment Mega Bank increased by 9.64 per cent, NMB Bank by 9.42 per cent, Global IME Bank by 9.22 per cent and Liberty Energy Company by 9.03 per cent.

However, the share price of Nepal Finance decreased by 10 per cent even on Thursday.

The share price of Bindhyabasini Hydropower Development decreased by 7.22 per cent, Shuvam Power by 7.10 per cent and Mid Solu Hydropower by 6.28 per cent.
