Madhyabindu (Nawalparasi), Aug 13 :
The farmers at Bardaghat Susta Purba have been attracted towards commercial
goat rearing.
They are lured to high income over
a short time from the goat farming.
Chief of veterinary hospital in the
district, Rishav Guragain, informed that the last fiscal year witnessed
increase in numbers of farmers rearing goat, commercial farms, and goats as
well.
In the fiscal year, 2080/81, there
was remarkable increase in goat rearing compared to the previous year, 2079/80.
Last fiscal year had 18 new registration of commercial farm to rear goat,
thereby reaching 274 in the district, according to Guragain.
Similarly, there were over 143
thousand goat in the year, 2079/80, which increased by 23,789 in the fiscal
year, 2080/81.
Veterinarian Guragain said it was
significant increase in the commercial farming. In the last three years, the
district saw the increase of over 45,000 goats. "As the goat rearing is
comparatively advantageous, which provides quicker return, the farmers are
attracted to it," he observed.
With the increase in number of
farmers rearing goats commercially, the meat product also went up. In 2079/80,
the district had produced 581 metric tonnes of goat meat, which was upped by 95
metric tonnes in the last fiscal year.
Some farmers sell the livestock
through cooperatives, while some sell on their own.
The farmers sold 166 metric tonnes
of goats through cooperatives while 511 metric tonnes on their own last
year.
The goats reared here are supplied
to Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan cities.
With the rise on number of farmer
rearing goats, those rearing buffalos have declined in the district. The
buffalo farming requires hard work and more investment. It also takes longer
time to secure return. (RSS)
