Ghimire’s undying passion for editing, directing ever-present in his life

Kathmandu, Aug. 7Nishan Ghimire, a distinguished film editor and director of music videos and films, has been a leading figure in the Nepali film industry for over two decades.

With a career spanning more than 20 years, Ghimire boasts extensive expertise in film editing. He has edited over 6,000 music videos and directed more than 350. 

 His profound knowledge of graphics and animation has led him to collaborate with various television channels and programmes.

Highly reputed for editing music videos and advertisements Ghimire has been editing films and directing music videos with equal fervour since 2008. 

After a decade of working as a video editor at various television and production houses, Ghimire founded his own company, Global FX, in 2013. In 2020, he launched another company called Rad Studio, focusing on film and music video direction, editing and other technical works. 

His passion for video editing began at the age of 18 when he observed a videographer at work.

Notable music videos he has edited include ‘Timrai Jhajhalko Aauchha Nirmaya’,  ‘Nabirse Timilai’ (male version), ‘Timi Kasko Hune Hola Ma Pani Kasko Hune Hola’,  ‘Piudina Bhanda Bhandai Pilayo Sathile’ and ‘Chal Batas Chal’.

 His directed music videos like ‘Yasari Nai U Dhale Ma Dhale,’ ‘Timi Phulyau Katai’,  ‘Aandhi Sari Timro Maya’ ‘Bal Garer Kholu Aankha’,  ‘Chhatpati’, and  ‘Don’t Kill Me’.

He has also edited and colour-graded over a dozen films, including ‘Guru Dakshina’ ‘Signature’,  ‘Mero Katha’,  ‘Zindagi Rocks’,  ‘Hey Yuwa’ and ‘Adrishya’.

Ghimire is currently managing the post-production of a film outside his company, where he serves as the creative director, chief editor and colourist. This project is expected to be completed by the end of December, he said.  “Following this, I will direct a film titled ‘Muna’ which is currently in pre-production.”

Additionally, he is preparing to produce and direct a three-season web series through Rad Studio, with each season consisting of 10 episodes. 

The series will feature theatre actors and is scheduled to release one episode per week, with a new season launching six months after the previous one. The entire series is expected to span two years from production to release, with potential plans to stream on Amazon Prime or Netflix, he informed.

With a well-considered approach to editing and direction, Ghimire is confident in the quality of his work. 

Many of the music videos directed by him have gained widespread popularity, and he has received various national awards for his editing and directing. 

They include ‘Bindabasini Music Award’ (2010 and 2018), ‘Music Khabar Award’ (2016), ‘Rapti Music Award’ (2016), ‘Image Award’ (2018), and ‘Himalaya International Award’ (2022).

 In 2018, he was also honoured by former President Bidya Devi Bhandari for his contribution as an editor to the environmental documentary ‘Milankoli’.

Ghimire participated in the ‘Focus 2023 Meet the Makers’ conference, a global event for filmmakers and media professionals held in London, organised by The Location Guide. 

Having dedicated over two decades to his craft, Ghimire has faced numerous challenges and successes. 

He frequently works around 16 hours a day and aims to maintain this dedication while making his work more scientific and systematic. 

He also plans to collaborate with other organisations for collective benefit. Ghimire, who was the third vice-president of the Nepal Music Video Directors Society, intends to run for the president position if he gets needed support from his friends.
