Home Minister Lekhak instructs bodies concerned to protect disaster-affected people

Kathmandu, Aug 5: Minister for Home Affairs, Ramesh Lekhak, has directed the bodies concerned to adopt measures to save citizens of disaster-affected areas.     

In the 24th meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) Executive Committee today, Home Minister Lekhak emphasized the need to place measures at the earliest to save the citizens of landslide and flood-ravaged areas including Mahottari, Banke, Kaski, Sankhuwasabha, Kanchanpur, Bhojpur and Chitwan.     

He shared, "We should be serious on the issue of assistance receiving from foregn organsations and national security while making 'Disaster Sensitive Social Security Procedure, 2081'. There should be one door entrance of foreign organizations on the matter of receiving assistance to respond disasters, the Minister noted.     

The Home Minister instructed the bodies concerned to come up with policy agendas rather day-to-day administrative affairs in the meeting in the coming days, adding the NDRRMA should carry out daily administrative activities.     

"It would be appropriate to hold discussions on policy-level matters in the executive meeting. The rights related to consent and approval can be delegated to the executive of the Authority. The rules can also be amended through cabinet", he underlined.     

Home Minister Lekhak asked the stakeholders to be seriously involved in the implementation of the issue raised in the meeting.
