Kirtipur, July 30: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Bidhya Bhattarai said that she was working to make university education competitive even by increasing the budget for the education sector.

Minister Bhattarai, who is also the Pro-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, said that enough budget should be allocated for the education sector.

In the TU Senate meeting on Tuesday, Minister Bhattarai argued that she has been calling for allocating 20 percent of the country's total annual budget to the education sector.

She viewed that education should be qualitative and competitive and should give more focus to the science and technology sector.

Likewise, the Education Minister said that all four research institutions of the TU should be developed as think tanks and directed the TU office-bearers to make action plans accordingly.

The Senate has approved the budget of Rs 26.16 billion for the current fiscal year.(RSS)
