Dalit settlement in Melamchi at risk of landslide

By Chitra Mijar, Sindhupalchowk,  July 23: Dozens of houses are at risk due to the landslide that fell from above the Dalit settlement of Golfule tole of Sindhukot, Melamchi Municipality-5. Out of all, nine houses are at risk, so it has been observed that the settlement should be relocated immediately. 

The residents have left their homes and have moved to safer places after last night's landslide. 

The local Deepak Aale Magar said that buffaloes, cows, and other four-legged animals got buried worth Rs more than Rs 200, 000 in landslides however, no human casualty has been observed. 

The landslide has buried the house of Shiva Sarki, and buffaloes and cows in the shed of Sukuman Mijar and Shubhan Mijar. The landslide started to occur from below the settlement as well because of the land that got swept away in the hill above the settlement.  

Landslides have caused damage worth Rs 1 million to houses and sheds. 

The Mayor of the Melamchi Municipality Aitaman Tamang and other security personnel had reached the Dalit settlement affected by the landslide. 

He said that the landslide-affected people have been moved to safer places.
