PM Oli to seek confidence vote on Sunday

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 18: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to seek a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives (HoR) on July 21. 

According to CPN-UML Chief 

Whip Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, Prime Minister Oli has decided to take a vote of confidence at the upcoming meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday. 

Bartaula said the Federal Parliament Secretariat was notified on Wednesday about the Prime Minister’s decision to undergo a floor test on July 21 with a request for necessary arrangements accordingly.

According to the constitution, Prime Minister Oli needs to secure a vote of confidence from Parliament within 30 days of his appointment as prime minister. 

 Oli was appointed Prime Minister as per Article 76 (2) of the constitution with the support of 166 lawmakers of the UML and Nepali Congress on Sunday. 

He took the oath of Office and Secrecy before President Ramchandra Paudel on July 15.

It is certain that Prime Minister Oli will win the vote of confidence as he is backed by the largest party of the Parliament, Nepali Congress. 

He requires 138 votes in the 275-member House of Representatives to win the vote of confidence, and the NC and UML have 166 members in the Lower House.
