Kathmandu, July 16 : The newly
appointed Minister for Drinking Water, Pradip Yadav, has said he would devote
to resolving problems relating to Melamchi Drinking Water Project.
Sustainable solution of problems on
this project is essential, he underlined while assuming the office in Singha
Durbar on Monday.
Minister Yadav reiterated it is
necessary to ensure drinking water from the Melamchi Project throughout the
year. "The Melamchi Project is almost closed now, while we see shortage of
drinking water in the Kathmandu Valley," the Minister said, assuring the
ministry officials of adequate budget management.
He also reminded that climate
change had worsened the problems of drinking water like receding underground
water table and drying up of sources. This problem has been acute in Tarai
districts as well. It needs collective actions, the Minister stressed. (RSS)
