About 14% paddy plantation completed in Koshi Province

By Our Correspondent,Barahakshetra, July 3: Paddy plantation has been completed in 13.71 per cent of total paddy fields in the Koshi Province by Friday.

According to Purnamaya Gurung, Information Officer and Horticulture Development Officer of Directorate of Agricultural Development, Koshi Province, paddy plantation has been completed in 13.71 per cent of the total paddy fields by the end of June this year.

The paddy plantation has not been done in most places of Koshi Province where the farmers depend on rainfall. According to the directorate, paddy had been planted in 16.96 per cent of the area by the end of June last year.

In Koshi Province, paddy is cultivated in an area of 276,386 hectares. The total cultivable area in Koshi Province is 826,646.

Gurung said that only 10.78 per cent paddy plantation has been completed in Tarai districts, 21.21 per cent in mid-hills and 17.48 per cent in mountains districts of the Koshi Province.

According to the Directorate of Agricultural Development, paddy plantation has been completed in about 24.40 per cent of the total paddy plantation area of 5,666 hectares of land in Taplejung district due to delayed rains.

However, paddy plantation has been completed in 7 per cent of total paddy field of 8,492 hectares of land in Sankhuwasabha so far.

In Solukhumbu district, out of 1,225 hectares of paddy cultivation field, 35 per cent has been planted by Friday, according to Agriculture Directorate, Biratnagar.

Similarly, due to timely rains, about 29 per cent paddy plantation has been completed in Panchthar, 30 per cent in Ilam and 27 per cent in Bhojpur.

The paddy plantation has been completed in around 25 per cent of total paddy field of 6,615 hectares in Tehrathum, 12 per cent in Dhankuta, 15.25 per cent in Udayapur and 12.25 per cent Okhaldhunga district.

Similarly, paddy plantation has been completed in 13.40 per cent in Khotang district, 11.35 per cent in Jhapa and 10 per cent in Morang so far. On the other hand, paddy has not been planted in most places in Sunsari district. 

According to Prabin Lal Shrestha, Information Officer of Agriculture Knowledge Centre, Sunsari, paddy plantation has been done only in 11 per cent of total paddy field of 48,009 hectares by Friday due to lack of timely rain.
