By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 14: Editors’ Society Nepal organised a hiking and an interaction at Gufadanda of Sindhupalchok district on Saturday.
The event was organised in coordination with Melamchi Municipality to generate awareness about the impact of climate change.
Melamchi was hit worst by a flash flood on June 15, 2021, sweeping away several houses of Melamchi Bazaar and causing massive destruction upstream.
A large number of journalists and the officials of Melamchi Municipality, including Mayor Aita Man Tamang participated in the hiking followed by an interaction.
Gufadanda, which lies on the top of a hill in Ward No. 9 of Melamchi, had hosted the National Climate Change Conference in January 2019. The participants hiked to the steep hill before joining the interaction held on the premises of local Kyaulethana Basic School.
In the interaction, Mayor Tamang and Ward Chairman Kirandip Khadka shared their plans to develop the area and cope with the impact of climate change. They also responded to the questions of participating journalists while General Secretary of the Editors’ Society Shyam Dotel urged the locals to brand their products and sell them to the visiting local and international tourists.
