Gorkha, June 8:Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said that the incumbent government was working to uplift the standard of living of the common people.
Addressing an event organized by the CPN (Maoist Centre) in Siranchok Rural Municipality-8 of Gorkha on Saturday, the CPN (Maoist Centre) Vice-Chairman said the government was clear that the latest political changes should not be devoted only to gaining political rights.
"We are trying to figure out how to change the standard of living of the people," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Shrestha said that the people have not yet fully realized the achievements of the political transformation and added that everyone would feel the political changes only if their standard of living were improved.
Meanwhile, Shrestha said that unity among the leftist forces was needed to safeguard the nationality.
At a programme in Chitwan on Saturday, Shrestha said such unity was imperative for giving a conclusion to the transformation and political changes and the unity among the communist parties should reach the grassroots level.
On the occasion, General Secretary of Nepal Communist Party Netra Bikram Chand 'Biplav' said that the government was not making sufficient interventions to uplift the people's livelihood.
He said his government was ready to cooperate with the communist parties to safeguard the nationality and ensure public welfare.(RSS)
