By Our Correspondent,Damak, May 23: Chairman of the CPN-UML and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that with the construction of quality roads and captivating bridges within Nepal, there’s no need to travel abroad to take selfies.

He underscored that Nepal was experiencing the development of physical infrastructure, including roads and bridges, similar to those seen abroad.

Laying the foundation stone of Kakarbhitta-Laukhi Road Upgradation Project of Eastern Highway at Padajungi in Kamal Rural Municipality of Jhapa on Wednesday, Oli emphasised that physical infrastructure development serves as a crucial catalyst for the holistic progress of the state.

Oli remarked, “I’ve observed the trend of travelling abroad and taking selfies against towering skyscrapers and at the same time protesting the construction of such grand structures in Nepal.”

Oli expressed, “We’re constructing roads, bridges, and buildings similar to those in foreign countries right here in Nepal. Soon, the infrastructure we’re building will become picturesque selfie spots.”

Oli stressed that the development and enhancement of roads would interconnect various facets of progress.

He advocated for equal opportunities for all in such initiatives, encouraging individuals to actively seek and seize these opportunities.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure Raghubir Mahaseth affirmed that the construction of the four-lane road would adhere to international standards and be completed within the designated timeframe.

The Kakarbhitta-Laukhi section spans 95 km. He noted that the construction of the road commenced with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank and is projected to conclude within the next three years.

It was informed that the construction period for all contracts spans three years, with maintenance work to be undertaken by the same construction company for an additional six years following completion.

The construction contract was signed on October 19, 2023, with the completion date set for February 1, 2026.
