Taskforce meeting concludes deciding to meet again

Kathmandu, May 21: Efforts are underway between two sides in the task force formed to finalize the terms of reference of the parliamentary committee on the issue of cooperative fund embezzlement.     

In today's meeting of the task force held at the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, the ruling and opposition parties expressed their views.     

Chief Whip of the CPN (UML), Mahesh Bartaula, shared that today's meeting concluded by deciding to meet again for consensus.     

The Nepali Congress has been obstructing the meeting of both houses demanding the formation of a parliamentary committee for conducting an impartial investigation, citing the involvement of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane found in cooperative fund embezzlement.     

An understanding was reached on May 18 between the ruling parties and the main opposition party, NC, to form a parliamentary probe committee. A task force was formed to finalize the terms of reference of the probe committee.     

All parties expressed their views in today's task force meeting, said NC Joint General Secretary Jeevan Pariyar.     

The taskforce meeting would meet again this evening or tomorrow, he added. Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Padam Giri, NC leader Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, CPN (UML) Chief Whip Bartaula, NC Joint General-Secretary Pariyar and Shishir Khanal of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party are in the taskforce.
