Fire guts 23 shops in Tanahun

By Our Correspondent,Tanahu, May 21: A fire gutted 23 shops in Damauli, the district headquarters of Tanahun, on Sunday night.

According to the District Police Office, property worth Rs. 76 million has been destroyed after a fire spread in 23 shutters of 20 traders in Damauli.

Deputy Superintendent of Police of the District Police Office, Deepak Kumar Raya, said that the details of the incurred loss are yet to be confirmed.

Major shops operating at the main roadside in Byas Muncipality-3 caught fire on Sunday at 11:30 pm. The shops were operating under the District Coordination Committee.

According to Chief District Officer Janardan Gautam, the fire was brought under control only on Monday at 7:00 am with the help of the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Municipal Police.  Though it was late, the fire was brought under control with the help of deployed firefighters and fire trucks. Four fire engines were used to douse the fire, he said.  

Baikuntha Nath Mishra, chairman of the Tanahun Industry and Commerce Association, said that the Association would facilitate the traders in obtaining the insurance amount.
