By Amar Raj Naharki,Tanahun, May 13: After Damauli Hospital started the caesarean section for childbirth, the hospital has been facing a shortage of blood often. Moreover, the health centre also caters to 55 kidney patients who come for regular dialysis, informed Dr. Paribartan Baral, chief of Damauli Hospital.
According to the Nepal Red Cross Society of Tanahun district, security personnel, especially Nepal Police officers in the district, have been of great help in solving the shortage of blood in several emergencies.
“There was a shortage of blood at Damauli Hospital on Sunday. It was solved after 11 police officers donated the blood,” said Surya Chandra Hadkhale, secretary at the Tanahun District Chapter of the Nepal Red Cross Society.
“More police officers wanted to donate blood; however, we kept them on hold as similar emergencies can come up later,” said Hadkhale, adding, “A blood donor should donate again only after a gap of at least three months.”
On Sunday, the blood was collected by the police officers on the occasion of Traffic Week. Tanahun District Traffic Police Chief Santosh Paudel informed that 17 persons, including 11 officers, donated blood in the campaign supported by the Red Cross Society.
“If a patient is not provided with the quantity of blood sought by the doctors, the treatment is highly affected. Thus, we are doing what we can to solve the problem,” said Paudel.
Police Constable Devi Saru Magar, who was donating blood for the first time, expressed happiness to have aided in saving someone’s life.
Likewise, Police Constable Prem Kumar Thapa, who was donating blood for the 14th time, said that he was always ready to donate blood for those in need.
“We are donating blood to motivate more people towards blood donation as it is an easy step to save the lives of others.
The donation on Sunday was the fifth time I donated blood during emergencies,” said Superintendent of Police (SP) Apil Raj Bohora, chief of the Tanahun District Police Office.
Addressing the blood donation campaign on Sunday, chief guest Janardan Gautam, Chief District Officer of Tanahun, stressed the need to make citizens aware of the benefits of blood donation.
Of the six other individuals who donated blood in the blood donation campaign by police, one was Tanahun’s Nepal Red Cross Society’s deputy-treasurer Hari Sigdel, a resident of Ward No. 1 of Vyas Municipality. It was Sigdel’s donation for the 46th time.
“I have never felt weak after donating blood 46 times over the years. It is rather satisfactory. We should all donate blood if we are healthy,” said Sigdel.
