Art exhibition on climate change underway

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 16:The exhibition ‘Himalayako Rahasya Ra Srijanabriti’ (Secrets of the Himalayas and Creativity) commenced on Sunday under the initiative of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).

Naradmani Hartamchhali inaugurated a- week-long exhibition.

Inaugurating the exhibition, NAFA Chancellor Hartamchhali said that the academy aimed to cover two distinct topics through this exhibition.

He highlighted the serious impact of climate change on  the Himalayan region of Nepal through the art exhibition, and to encourage the National Fine Arts Award winners of the ‘National Fine Arts Exhibition 2080’.

Chancellor Hartamchhali emphasised that the impact of climate change on the mountains had  been artistically presented by artists through art.

The exhibition has been organised with the aim that artists should also play a special role in the campaign to save the mountains, he added.

Vice-Chancellor of the academy, Lalkaji Lama, remarked that mountains are intricately connected with life and the world, asserting, “If there are mountains, there will be water, and if there is water, there will be life.”

Member Secretary Devendra Kumar Kafle ‘Thumkeli’ stated that the exhibition covers various topics, including the agenda raised by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ through the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference ‘Cop 28'’.

He emphasised the importance of awareness about the serious impact of recent climate change, as mountains are intertwined with the animal world’s life.

Artworks by various artists, including Anita Bhattarai, Angela Joshi, Arpita Parajuli, Aruna Hingmang, BR Shrestha, Bhim Kumar Shrestha, Bhim Subba Tamang, Biku Kumar Thapa, Binod Kumar Gupta, Bipana Maharjan, Damodar Baral, DB Bhandari, Devendra Thumkeli, Dinesh Thapa Magar, Dineshwar Mahato, Dipesh Nepali, and Keshav Raj Khanal, are showcased at the exhibition.

The art exhibition was coordinated by artist Keshav Raj Khanal, while the exhibition's curation was undertaken by Pradeep Shakya, a member of the Academic Council. The exhibition will continue till April 19.
