Ghandruk Fair to be held from April 9-12

By Our Correspondent,Lekhnath, Mar. 29: Preparations have been complete for a fair at Ghandruk, a tourist village in Annapurna Rural Municipality of Kaski. 

The Ghandruk Tourism Management Committee is going to organise the Ghandruk Tourism Fair from April 9 to 12. 

Festival coordinator Amrit Lama Gurung said at a press conference held in Pokhara on Thursday that preparations for the festival have begun with the slogan 'Tourism in all seasons' in Gandhruk village of Annapurna Rural Municipality Ward No 9 and 10. 

The winner of the men's volleyball tournament will get Rs, 111,111 while the second runner-up will get Rs. 70,000. In women's volleyball, the winning team will get Rs. 30,000 while the second runner-up will get Rs. 20,000. 

The winners and runners-up of open basketball will get Rs. 100,000 and Rs. 60,000 respectively, while the winner of horse race will get Rs. 55,555 and the runner-up will get Rs. 27,777. 

The horse race will be nine and a half kilometres long. Coordinator Gurung said that there will also be stone throwing, musical chair and wheelchair basketball competition in the festival.

On the occasion of the fair, a race competition will also be held on the cycling route. The winner will get Rs. 15,000, the first runner-up Rs. 10,000 and the second runner-up Rs. 5,000. 

There are 73 hotels and 19 homestays in Ghandruk, which is mainly inhabited by the Gurung community. Ghandruk is also known for its culture and tradition of Gurungs.
