By Kabiraj Ghimire,Hile, Mar. 9: The construction of the world's tallest Yuma Manghim, a temple of people adhering to the Kirat religion, is now underway in Chaubise Rural Municipality-6, Dhankuta. The temple will have nine stories.

Rajkumar Chemjong, Chairman of the rural municipality, said that they planned to construct the Yuma Manghim by collecting funds from federal, provincial and local governments.

The rural municipality has estimated that the construction cost of the Yuma Manghim will be around Rs. 90 million.

By now, about Rs. 20 million has been used in the project, and construction of two floors above the plinth has been completed, Chemjong informed.

He said that the effort aims to transform it into a sacred site for devotees worldwide. “Despite the construction being halted for a time being, we are now giving impetus to the construction efforts by proactively garnering support from the provincial and federal authorities and other stakeholders,” he added.

The construction of Yuma Manghim began in 2004 but was halted midway due to budgetary constraints. However, recently, reconstruction efforts have resumed with the support gathered from various sources.

It is believed that the site where the Manghim is currently under construction was a playground for the snake gods Mawarak and Pawarak.
