4000 students of 40 districts studying in Waling technical school

By Radhakrishna Dumre,Waling, Jan. 19: It may seem strange that students from 40 districts are studying at the technical school of a village in Waling, Syangja district.  The ' Farmer’s Multi Technical School' of Chapakot Municipality-10, which has been providing quality education to prepare technical manpower, is now the talk of the town.  

Established to improve the overall quality of life of the youth through professional and employment-oriented skills, the school has been able to make the desired progress in a short time.   The Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training established it as an affiliated school in 2018. The school teaches courses in four subjects--agriculture, animal health, biology and engineering (information technology and civil engineering). 

Around 400 students are now studying these subjects. For the farmers from 40 different districts, including Syangja, it has become the only place to study. 

The school has produced more than 100 skilled technicians in technical agriculture and engineering and has provided more than 1,000 people with skill-based training, which made them eligible to get employment immediately.  

Jeevan Prasad Bhandari, head of the school, said that technical education has become a good place for students from geographically remote places and ethnically and economically backward communities.

Bhandari said that students from many districts are studying in the school as they can get technical education enjoying the facilities of reservation, concession and free scholarship.  According to him, students from 60 districts have come to study in the school so far. The school provides education of three natures, he said, It has been producing skilled engineers and imparts short-term skill-based training. 

The school has become a boon for those who have learned skills in different ways but have not been able to prove the gained skills. 

They have been provided certificates in coordination with the National Skill Testing Committee.

Dev Bahadur Khand (Ishwor), Mayor of Chapakot Municipality. said that the local government was taking initiatives for the construction of a well-equipped building for the school. 

Minister for Justice, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Dhanraj Gurung, who visited the school to monitor it recently, said that he would facilitate for the formulation of necessary laws required to make technical education easily accessible.

Minister Gurung stressed the need for quality education stating that technical education is needed to get employment immediately. 

Bhandari briefed Minister Gurung about the challenges, requirements and immediate steps to be taken in running the school smoothly.
