'Digital technology must for economic transformation'

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 23: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has said that digital transformation and building a digital ecosystem are necessary for the economic transformation of the country. 

Addressing the eighth edition of the ICT Awards organised by Living with ICT on Friday, Minister Sharma said that the government was formulating necessary policy, legal and structural arrangements for this transformation.

She said, “The government considers information and communication technology (ICT) as a basic need and a national priority.” 

Minister Sharma said that information technology was an important basis for the development of the digital economy, and to compete with the world. 

Minister Sharma further stressed that the government has passed the National Cyber Security Policy-2080 B.S (2023), to create cyber laws and establish a National Cyber Security Centre. 

Minister Sharma also informed that the government was organising new programmes like ICT Exhibition and Digital Champion to encourage startups in the information technology sector this year.

Minister Sharma stressed that digital skill programmes would be implemented in all seven provinces to retain youths in the country by creating job opportunities.
