Rupandehi to adopt one door policy for relief distribution to quake-hit people

By Laxman Paudel, Bhairahawa, Nov. 6: After many organizations and local levels started sending relief as per their own feasibility, the District Administration Office, Rupandehi, has decided to provide relief and assistance work to be sent to the earthquake victims through a one-door policy. 

A meeting chaired by Ganesh Aryal, Chief District Officer, Rupandehi, also, a former coordinator at the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, has decided to adopt a door policy to make relief and assistance effective. 

Similarly, DAO, Rupandehi, held a meeting with political parties of the district, chief of the local level government, chief administrative staff, organizations and stakeholders and came to the decision to discourage relief done for popularity and publicity. 

The earthquake jolted Jajarkot at 11:47 PM last Friday with a 6.4 Richter magnitude scale with its epicenter in Barekot Rural Municipality, Jajarkot, thereby causing human casualties and property damage. 

According to Ganesh Aryal, Chief District Officer, Rupandehi, the decision has been made to collect all relief and assistance from local-level government, organizations and individuals, in the District Administration Office and to send them to quake-affected areas through DAO. 

He said that food and clothes are being sent to the affected area bearing in mind about inadequacy of food and clothes in the area. 

Six months’ salary to quake victims

Likewise, Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan, Mayor of Siddharthanagar, has committed to give his six months of salary to help the earthquake victims. 

 “Earthquake has caused many human causalities and property damage, therefore, on humanitarian grounds we all need to join hands to provide relief to the victims. I am also contributing my bit to the cause,” said Mayor Khan. 

 Siddharthanagar Municipality said that the amount will be provided to both affected districts, Jagarkot and Rukum (West) in equal amounts through the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management fund and government guidelines.
