Govt. makes Emergency Telecommunication Cluster (ETC) active

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Nov.3: The government has activated the Emergency Telecommunication Cluster (ETC) in the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology to manage the information and communication system of the earthquake-affected areas. 

A meeting held at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology on the call of Minister Rekha Sharma decided to activate the cluster. 

The meeting has decided to request the service providers to restore telephone and internet services in the earthquake-affected areas and the Nepal Telecommunications Authority will coordinate, monitor and manage resource mobilization as needed. 

Similarly, the meeting decided that the service providers should appoint a contact person to make the service effective and stay in constant contact. 

The meeting has urged all media and social network users to only broadcast the real, truthful, reliable and official news from earthquake-affected areas, informed Communication Expert of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

Officials from Nepal Telecom informed that basic telecommunication services are free in the earthquake-affected areas. 

Minister Sharma, Secretary Krishna Bahadur Rawat, Nepal Telecommunications Authority, Nepal Telecom, Federation of Nepalese Journalists, and other heads and representatives of the mass media sector were present.
