Digital infrastructure expansion a top government priority: Minister Timilsina

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, May 22: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr Bikram Timilsina has said that the government has put priority on expanding 4G services, developing digital infrastructure, strengthening data centers, and increasing investment in cybersecurity.

Speaking at a meeting of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee under the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament, Minister Timilsina briefed the committee on current issues related to expansion of the digital infrastructure of the country, telecommunication service quality, cybersecurity, the digital economy, investment in the information technology sector, and media and advertising policies.

Saying that ending the digital divide remains one of the government's top priorities he said that the government is moving forward with immediate, medium-term, and long-term plans to achieve this goal.

Presenting his views at the committee meeting, Minister Timilsina said the government is focused on expanding access to telephone and internet services and improving service quality across the country, particularly in remote and rural areas.

According to him, additional budget allocations and programs in the upcoming fiscal year will accelerate efforts to expand networks, strengthen infrastructure, and improve service quality. 

He also informed the committee that the government has prepared a clear one-year action plan to further expand 4G services, establish new sites, and build the necessary infrastructure to ensure connectivity reaches remote settlements as well.
