By Our Correspondent,Nepalgunj, Nov. 4:The Mechi-Mahakali National Rescue Journey-2080 which began on October 14 with the slogan 'No one should live on the streets during the festival time', reached Nepalgunj on Friday.
The rescue journey is being jointly run by Manav Sewa Ashram and Ani Chhoying Drolma. It is said that the journey will end on November 20 after reaching Kathmandu.
The journey left for Karnali Province on Thursday after rescuing three persons from Banke.
Ramji Adhikari, founder president of the Ashram, said that 140 disabled, helpless and parentless street people were rescued in 18 days from different districts.
He said that the rescued people have been kept in the Manav Sewa Ashram in the same districts from where they were rescued. According to the officials, more people were rescued from the streets of Morang, Sunsari and Jhapa districts.
Adhikari said that most of the rescued people were mentally ill and their treatment started immediately after their rescue. The rescued persons would be reunited with their families if they were informed about their relatives.
Urbin Sapkota, coordinator of Banke Ashram, said that three people aged between 18 and 40 years were rescued from the streets of Nepalgunj.
There are 24 branch offices of Manav Sewa Ashram in 19 districts.
