By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 24:Cricket Association of Nepal has re-elected Chatur Bahadur Chand as its president for the second term.
Chand secured his second term unopposed in the electoral general assembly held in Kathmandu. After no one registered the candidacy against him, President Chand was unanimously re-elected on Friday night (September 22). The electoral general assembly of the CAN started on Friday.
After solidifying his position as the head of Nepali cricket administrative body, Chand expressed his gratitude for the unanimous support and emphasized the growing responsibilities that come with
renewed mandate.
Chand said that his coming tenure will focus on strengthening the domestic cricket structure. “We need to change the domestic structure within three months. We have the challenge to keep up with India and Pakistan after playing them in the Asia Cup. For that we need to strengthen domestic
cricket structure.”
“Now, we must lay the groundwork for the Test cricket. Government should help on building cricket infrastructure. We are actively engaging with the government to drive progress.”
In addition, Roshan Bahadur Singh was elected unopposed as the Vice President of the CAN. He held the post of treasurer in immediate past central committee. Padma Bahadur Khadka has been chosen as the new Treasurer of cricket body.
Nepal’s former captain Paras Khadka has been elected as the secretary of CAN. Khadka garnered 48 votes in his support to secure the post. His opponent Prashant Bikram Malla, former CAN Ex-co member, receive 37 out of total 85 votes casted.
After two years of retirement, former national captain succeed to enter the
cricket administration.
Likewise, Jayanti Bhatt has been continued as the female member of the CAN. She was elected unopposed. Shreedhar KC from Karnali Province and Pradip Majgainya from Lumbini Province were also elected unopposed from province quota. Sudip Sharma from Gandaki Province, Bikram Bista from Sudurpaschim Province, Diwakar Ghale from Bagmati Province, Arjun Paudel from Koshi Province and Madhav Karmacharya from Madhesh Province elected in
province quota.
In five open members, Dhirendra Saud, Birendra, Durgaraj Pathak, Ayush Shrestha and Karan Mahatra elected in the new central committee of CAN.
